How to Spot
Fake DayZ Servers

Full servers with no queue, dozens of clones on one IP, a copy of your favourite server's name. Here's how fake DayZ servers work, how to recognise them, and how DayZ Beans keeps them out of the list.

What is a fake DayZ server?

A fake server lies to the server list to get your click. The DayZ browser sorts by player count, so a server that reports 60/60 players looks busy and climbs to the top — whether or not anyone is actually playing.

There are four common kinds:

Inflated population

The server reports players that aren't there — often via fake "bot" entries or a modified query response. You join a "full" server and meet nobody.

Server farms

Many near-identical servers on the same IP address, all suspiciously full, flooding the list so one community takes every top slot.

Impostors

A copy of a popular server's name, hosted somewhere else, to catch players searching for the real one.

Fake "official" servers

A server dressed up as an official Bohemia server while running a map official servers never use.

Warning signs you can check yourself

1

Bots in the player count

Real DayZ servers never report bots. Any server query that shows a non-zero bot count has been modified.

2

More than 127 players

DayZ servers cap at 127 player slots. Anything above that is impossible.

3

Always full, never a queue

A genuinely popular server that sits at max players almost always has a queue. Full for days with no queue — and a player count that barely moves — is a red flag.

4

Lots of clones on one IP

Compare the IPs: if a dozen servers share an address, the same mod list, the same slot count and the same name prefix, and all of them are nearly full, you're looking at a farm.

5

The right name, the wrong IP

Before joining a big community server, check the IP on its Discord or website. A different IP under the same name is an impostor.

How DayZ Beans blocks them — for everyone

Some launchers give you a filter to hide suspicious servers. We do the checks on our side and remove the server from our list entirely, so it's gone in the launcher and on the web server browser for every player, whether they changed a setting or not.

  • Bot and population checks — every server we query is rejected if it reports bots or more than 127 players.
  • Farm detection — every two hours we score clusters of busy servers on the same IP (shared mods, slot counts, names, fullness, age). High scores are blocked; clusters that include a verified or claimed server are skipped.
  • Impostor protection — once a server is verified, any server using its name from another IP is blocked automatically.
  • Fake official servers — "official" servers running a non-official map are blocked.

Live figures from our detection. Servers banned by Bohemia or removed by hand by our moderators aren't included.

Spotted one we missed? Open the server's page and use Report server — reports go straight to our moderators.

Run a server? Protect your name

Impostor protection keys on verified servers. Claim your server for free and get it verified by our team: from then on, any server copying your name from a different IP is removed automatically, and you get an analytics dashboard while you're at it.
